My latest Al Jazeera English story examines the strategic significance of the Golan Heights, where Syrian rebels continue to battle regime forces for control. As that fighting rages on, Syrians living in the 70 percent of the region occupied by Israel are also feeling the impact.

Divided though they are towards the al-Assad regime in Damascus, Syrians living under Israeli occupation worry for their relatives as groups like the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra continue to gain steam in their homeland. Click here to read the whole story.
