MEE: Syrian students return to Israeli-occupied Golan Heights

My latest feature article at Middle East Eye examines how Damascus University students from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights are rarely allowed to go home to visit their families. As the violence in Syria escalates and nears the demarcation line, Israeli authorities are tightening restrictions on opening the Quneitra crossing from the Israeli-controlled territory to the rest of Syria.

Several hundreds used to make the voyage to Damascus University and other Syrian academic institutions across the country. Yet as the fighting grows increasingly sectarian and the death toll continues to mount, that number has dropped to several dozen.
